Sweeping panorama as you step into the tea house

 This project has definitely been eye-opening for us as our client has requested to have all the chair and tables lowered than the standard, hence allowing us to custom all furniture pieces. They believe that their Taiwanese food has to feel home cooked; a kind of soul food.

For many Taiwanese, food is closely tied to home, family, and tradition, evoking feelings of nostalgia and comfort which is vastly similar to Malaysian Chinese. With the layout and height of the furniture pieces, Taiwanese cuisine can evoke feelings of warmth and homeliness, offering a connection to one's cultural roots, similar to the way "soul food" is perceived in other cultures.

 Taking significant inspiration from the form of the Bourse de Commerce restored by Tadao Ando, our design reflects its circular plan, symmetrical identical openings, and the simplicity of materials.

We reinterpret the complex beauty of the panoramic view atop the Bourse de Commerce into seamless curved seating arrangements throughout Fong Lye Tea House.

 A focal point toward the cashier counter, where the travertine makes a bold statement resonating throughout the entire space. The tea house is unified by a single Pantone color, yet it incorporates diverse textures and architectural material.

 Textured plasters, hand-rendered with meticulous craftsmanship, unify multiple forms visible from the facade. Creating intentional imperfections and subtle differences in colour, enhancing the beauty of the finish.
